Why does Bayern Munich have the motto “Mia San Mia”?

To understand why Bayern Munich uses this motto, you must first understand what it means.

Bayern Munich is a team from the German region Bavaria, and the above-mentioned phrase means “We are We” in Bavarian dialect. But why do they use this motto? Bayern Munich is a German multi-sport club and is internationally known mainly because of its football team. The club is proud of its history and where they come from, so their motto represents their strength.

Why does Bayern Munich wear red?

We’ve seen Bayern change their uniform a few times throughout their history. It’s mostly red, but it’s not unusual to see blue strips in their home kits.

However, in 2018, the fans of Bayern Munich started a protest against the club regarding the team colours. Bayern supporters didn’t want the club to use navy blue in the official club uniform for the simple reason that it is the main colour of their rivals Munich 1860.

So, why did they choose red?

To Bayern fans, red is considered a strong symbol of identity and belonging to the team.

The protest made by the fans was called Paragraph 1. During a match against Hertha Berlin, the fans displayed a giant red and white shirt from the 1990s with the inscription the club colours are red and white. After a series of protests, the club chose to satisfy the fans and change the team colours.

Has Bayern Munich ever been relegated?

In the late 1950s, Bayern’s rivals TSV 1860 Munich were regarded as the most prestigious club in Bavaria. The Bundesliga was created in 1963, and three years later, 1860 Munich become champions of Germany. However, a few year later, they found themselves competing in the second and third division. On the other hand, Bayern Munich achieved promotion to Bundesliga in 1965 and has never been relegated since!

But not only that: Bayern managed to stay on top and secure the most coveted prizes, unlike their rivals who went from champions to the third division.

Allianz Arena, the stadium of champions

Bayern Munich’s stadium is called the Allianz Arena. The insurance company Allianz bought the naming rights for 30 years. It was inaugurated on 30 May 2005 and has a capacity of 75 000 people in the Bundesliga, or 70 000 for international matches.

The name of the stadium goes against FIFA and UEFA regulations on stadium advertising, so during the 2006 World Cup matches played at the venue, the name was changed to FIFA World Cup Stadium Munich, and during Champions League matches the Allianz Arena is called Fußball Arena München.

The stadium belonged both to Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich, and the construction costs worth of 340 million euros were divided between the two clubs. In 2006, however, 1860 Munich sold its shares for only 11 million euros to Bayern Munich. But this did not prevent 1860 Munich from playing in the stadium until 2017.
